Explore the beauty of Ramsay-Shockey Open Space. This 3.9 mile hike around the Pinewood Reservoir will present us an opportunity to observe local wildflowers, birds and learn more about our natural environment. Easy to moderate difficulty. Meet at the Ramsay-Shockey Trailhead parking lot by 9:00 am. Car pooling is recommended as parking is limited. Bring binoculars if desired, water and snacks. Participants should bring: Sun protection (sunglasses, hat, sunscreen) Wear comfortable hiking/walking shoes (closed-toe recommended) Water Insect repellant Lunch & Snacks Clothing appropriate for the weather Backpack (to carry it all)

Former supervisor of gardeners and greenhouses at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, I've spent my adult life learning about the lush eastern deciduous forests of the Appalachians and leading monthly natural history hikes for the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. Moved to Fort Collins in 2019 and learning about this new dry habitat.
