Guided Hike/Program - Mixed Ages

Come join us to explore more about the natural and engineering worlds that surround Horsetooth Reservoir! In this guided hike we will focus on the hidden lives of the fish that live beneath the surface of the reservoir, and the fascinating story of its water supply. This will involve walking a segment of the Bay to Bay Trail, an easy and moderately flat, dirt and rock trail for a total of about 3 miles round trip. We will meet at the picnic tables at the South Bay Group Pavilion that overlooks the South Bay Swim Beach. We will walk to the trailhead together after an introduction. The program is free, but registration is required. The pavilion and the Bay to Bay Trailhead are a part of Horsetooth Reservoir, which charges a $10 day use fee; if you would like to explore Horsetooth Reservoir without paying the fee, you can check out a Discover Pack from a local library or one of our offices: https://www.larimer.gov/naturalresources/discover-pack This activity is rated: Easy/moderate (slow pace, trails are rocky with some minor elevation change. Pit toilets and potable water are available at the trailhead). This program is best for ages 12 yrs and older. Participants should bring: Headlamps or flashlight (for increased visibility and safety after sunset) Wear comfortable hiking/walking shoes (closed-toe recommended) Layers Water bottle Snacks Backpack (to carry it all) Weather dependent.
