Guided Hike/Program - Mixed Ages
The fascinating relationships between pollinators and flowering plants are diverse and not so different from ourselves. Join Naturalist Anita to discover the intimate relationships pollinators have with native plants in our region. You'll observe how the pollinators, plants, and animals (including ourselves) benefit from this relationship. This program is best suited for ages 10 yrs and older. We will meet at the main parking lot for Horsetooth Mountain Open Space. Carpooling is recommended as parking is limited. Program is free, but this location requires a $10 day use fee if you do not already have a yearly entrance permit; if you would like to join without paying the fee, you can check out a Discover Pack from a local library or one of our offices. Pit toilets and potable water available at the trailhead. Hike: You will be hiking about 2 miles on the Horsetooth Falls trail which is classified as a moderate difficulty trail. This will be a slow paced hike in order to stop and discuss certain plants and pollinators. • Steeper hills and switchbacks and some moderate obstacles • Some obstacles, rough surfaces • Roots, imbedded rocks Participants should bring: • Sun protection (sunglasses, hat, sunscreen) • Wear comfortable hiking/walking shoes (closed-toe recommended) • Water • Insect repellant • Lunch & Snacks • Clothing appropriate for the weather • Backpack (to carry it all) Weather dependent.
